The Stuttgart Airport (STR) is the international airport of Baden-Wuerttemberg state capital Stuttgart. It is largely located on the borders of the cities of Leinfelden-Echterdingen and Filderstadt. Stuttgart Airport is the largest airport in Baden-Württemberg and is the seventh largest airport in Germany in terms of passenger volume. In 2019 over 12.700.000 passed trough the airport.
Following a decision of 15 July 2014, the airport was renamed in honor of the late former mayor of Stuttgart was Manfred Rommel in "Flughafen Stuttgart - Manfred Rommel Airport".
Flughafen Stuttgart GmbH (FSG) was awarded the ACI Europe Best Airport Award 2014 as "best airport in Europe" in the category of airports between 5 and 10 million passengers by the European umbrella organization of airport operators (Airport Council International, ACI).
Stuttgart Airport has three terminals with their own gates (T1, T3 and T4) and two other terminals that are only used for check-in (T1 West and T2). The airport has only one runway . It is concreted, runs approximately 3345 meters in an east-west direction and is 45 meters wide.
There are connections to practically all European aviation hubs, including Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Paris, Amsterdam, Istanbul, London-Heathrow, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Moscow and Madrid.
There are also direct connections to cities and holiday destinations in Europe and North Africa. In addition to the hubs, Germany serves the airports Berlin-Tegel, Hamburg, Hanover, Düsseldorf, Bremen, Dresden, Leipzig / Halle and Münster / Osnabrück as well as seasonal Heringsdorf (Usedom) and Sylt.
Delta Air Lines has been connecting Stuttgart with Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta since 1986. This is currently the only transatlantic flight. In the meantime, transatlantic flights to New York (John F. Kennedy Airport or Newark) and Canada were also offered.
In addition, Stuttgart Airport has been the hub of initially Germanwings and now Eurowings since 2003.
