The airport was opened on October 1, 1999 to replace Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport as Shanghai's only international airport. The airport is the main hub for China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines and a major international hub for Air China. The Airport is a also headquoter for Juneyao Airlines and Spring Airlines, and an Asia-Pacific hub for UPS and DHL. Pudong Airport has 3 main passenger terminals, flanked by three parallel runways. Pudong Airport is the third busiest airport in the world in terms of cargo.
