The ' Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO) is an Italian international airport which is located in the Municipality of Fiumicino, about 30 km west of the center of the city of Rome. The airport served almost 43 million passengers in 2018, it makes it the largest Italian airport in terms of number of passengers and second large cargo port with over 199,000 tons of goods.
The airport is well connected to the city via the A91 motorway with three lanes in each direction. It has a parking area connected to the four terminals through a free shuttle; in addition to this there are four multi-storey car parks (B, C, D, Executive) directly connected to the terminals through corridors with treadmills. The airport also has a railway station , Fiumicino Airport Station.
It is the main hub of Alitalia and a secondary hub of Vueling, a low-cost airline. It is also the operational base of Alitalia CityLiner, Blue Panorama Airlines, Mistral Air, Norwegian Air Shuttle and Ryanair. In total 105 airlines operate from Leonardo da Vinci airport. Together with Ciampino Airport, it forms the Rome airport system with over 48 million passengers per year (2018), i.e. the largest in Italy and among the largest in Europe. Both airports are managed by the Aeroporti di Roma (AdR) company.
It currently has three terminals (T1, T3 and T5) reserved for domestic, international and intercontinental flights and three runways: the 16L / 34R and the 16R / 34L, separated from each other by 4 000 m and used mainly for landings from the north, and the 07/25 used mainly for take-offs in the west direction, due to the prevailing winds.
For the second consecutive year, the "Leonardo da Vinci" through ACI (Airport Council International), has obtained the "Airport Service Quality Award" award from passengers as the best airport in Europe for 2018.
