The international airport of Naples (NAP) - Capodichino named after the aviator Ugo Niutta, rank first in the South of Italy in regards to traffic and fifth overal in Italy after Rome-Fiumicino, Milan -Malpensa, Bergamo and Venice. It is located about 4 km from the central station of Naples, mainly in the district of San Pietro a Patierno, on the border with the Poggioreale districtsand a few steps from the San Carlo all'Arena district, in an area called Capodichino. A small part of its track falls within the municipality of Casoria. The whole area is densely populated.
The airport is connected to all major European airports and offers a high number of destinations across Europe and beyond. The airport is the base of easyJet , Ryanair and Volotea.
In 2017, the airport was awarded the "Aci Europe Award" for best in Europe in the category of 5-10 million passengers.
In 2018, in addition, the airport won the "fast and furious" title, the first in its category that rewards the airport with the highest growth in Europe, since it went from 6,775,988 passengers in 2016 to 8,577,507 passengers in 2017, with an increase of 26.6. In 2019 passengers traffic was 10,860,068.
Capodichino International Airport is the first airport in Italy to use electric buses, thanks to a partnership between Gesac and Handler, which started in winter 2018.
Capodichino is easily accessible from all the city thanks to the exit of the so-called "Tangenziale", an urban highway (A56) connecting the city of Naples to metropolitan area and highways to Rome and Caserta (A1), Salerno (A3) and Bari, Benevento and Avellino (A16). Fixed taxi rates are in use for the main destinations within the city limits of Naples from Airport to: Naples Centre, Molo Beverello (Port), Mergellina (Hydrofoils to Capri and Ischia Islands).
Bus Bus line 3S and Alibus, operated by ANM, connect the airport to Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza Municipio. Distance airport/centre city is about 7 km (4.3 mi). The airport is also connected to Avellino, Benevento, Caserta, Sorrento, Salerno and Serre.
