The main operator is Flughafen München GmbH with the Free State of Bavaria, the Federal Republic of Germany and the City of Munich as shareholders. The airport is an important central hub, especially for Lufthansa and its partners in the Star Alliance.
The Munich Airport Center is a shopping, business and leisure area connecting two terminals. In the old Central Zone ( German Zentralbereich ), which was originally built as part of Terminal 1, there is a shopping center and station S-Bahn, a Munich commuter train. The new MAC Forum, built with Terminal 2, is a large open area, with a roof partially stretched over it, which looks like a marquee. Nearby is the Hilton Hotels & Resorts Airport Hotel , which was designed by world-renowned architect Helmut Jahn.
Munich Airport Center has the only supermarket in Bavaria where you can buy food daily from 05:30 a.m. until midnight, including Sundays. The Bavarian law on the closure of stores ( German Ladenschlussgesetz) does not apply to this supermarket.
In order to improve the service of visitors and tourists, the airport administration decided to create the so-called. The “Visitors Park”, which includes the “Visitors Hill”, which offers a good view of the western platform and Terminal 1, as well as a restaurant and a shop selling airplane models and other things for collectors. The park is served by the railway station of the same name, "Besucherpark". The view from the hill is shown in the photograph on the side of the text. Historical aircraft, Super Constellation , Douglas DC-3 and Junkers Ju 52 models are also on display in the park .
In addition, there is a glazed terrace for visitors with sofas on the roof of Terminal 2. From there, a view of the eastern platform opens. All visitors can enter the terrace. Previously, they took money for entry, but since September 2013, admission is free.
