The Malaga Airport (AGP) is a Spanish airport located in Malaga. The airport is located in the Andalusia region, about eight kilometers southwest of downtown Málaga and about six kilometers north of downtown Torremolinos. It is located near the Mediterranean coast between the two cities.
The airport is connected to the Cercanías Málaga S-Bahn line C1 by local trains from the directions of Málaga and Fuengirola . There is a connection every 20 minutes during the day; the journey time from Málaga city center is approximately 15 minutes
The airport is also easily accessible from all coastal towns via the regional motorway MA-22 (formerly N-340), which branches off from the Autovia del Mediterráneo
At present it occupies the fourth place in terms of volume of passengers traffic between the airports of Spain, third of the Iberian Peninsula, and twenty place in the European Union. In 2018 it reached 19,021,704 passengers (16,208,244 on international flights) and 141,313 take-off and landing operations, figures that place it as the great gateway for tourism not only for the Costa del Sol but for all Andalusia as it represents around 85% of all international traffic in the community and especially the only one airport that can offer a wide range of destinations. Due to the large increase in air traffic at the airport, a new terminal and a new airstrip (runway 12/30) have recently been built. In this way, the Malaga airport already has two runways / takeoffs, which allows each one to be assigned a single function (or runway only for takeoffs, or runway only for landings), speeding up traffic.
The airport operates with more than sixty airlines that connect daily with twenty Spanish cities and more than one hundred cities in Europe , mainly with the United Kingdom, Central Europe and the Nordic countries but also the main cities in Eastern Europe like Moscow, St. Petersburg, Budapest, Sofia, Warsaw, Riga and Bucharest, the North Africa, Middle East - Riyadh, Jeddah and Kuwait City and North America - New York, Toronto and Montreal.
Holiday flights from England and Ireland in particular shape everyday life in Málaga (e.g. Ryanair, Easyjet, FlyBe , Norwegian, AerLingus). There are also numerous connections to Scandinavia (Norwegian, SAS ), Italy ( Alitalia, Vueling ), and many other countries in Europe. Low-cost airlines dominate the business.
Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are connected to each other without the need to go outside. In the normal airport configuration all commercial passengers have to go through terminal 3, where the only security control is located, although the controls of terminals 1 and 2 are retained for use in case of excessive congestion of terminal 3.
