The Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) also known as Chek Lap Kok Airport is the main airport serving the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in the People's Republic of China.
The facility was built on a small island, Chek Lap Kok, which was expanded to form a larger artificial island. Its air terminal was designed by architect Norman Foster .
In 2018, HKIA handled 75 million passengers, making it the 8th busiest airport worldwide by passenger traffic.it is the airport that carries the most cargo per year and is the main hub of Cathay Pacific, Dragonair, Hong Kong Express Airways, Hong Kong Airlines, Oasis Hong Kong Airlines and Air Hong Kong. It is a focus city for many airlines, including China Airlines and China Eastern Airlines. Singapore Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Air India utilise Hong Kong as a stopover point for their flights.
The airport has two parallel runways, each 3,800 meters long and 60 meters wide. The southern runway belongs to the "Category II Precision Approach", while the northern runway belongs to the higher category ("Category IIIA"), which allows pilots to land with only 200 meters of visibility. The two runways can accommodate a maximum of 60 aircraft movements per hour (landing or takeoff). There are currently 48 front-end aircraft reception stations, 27 removable stations and 21 stations for cargo aircraft. Five car parks in the “Northwest Concourse” are already capable of supporting the arrival of the next generation of widebody aircraft.
