Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC) also popularly known as El Altet airport, is a Spanish airport of Aena which is 8 km to the southwest of Alicante. It is located in the municipality of Elche, 10 km east of its urban center, between the districts of El Altet and Torrellano. Due to its location, this airport serves a large part of the Spanish east. It has traditionally had an important charter traffic although currently most of the traffic is regular and international.
Public transport : approx. buses to Alicante or Benidorm leave every 40 minutes (journey time approx. 45 minutes). The Estación de Renfe - Torrellano train station is also in the immediate vicinity of the airport . From here there are trains every hour towards Alicante (north) and Murcia (south). The new C-6 bus line has been running to Alicante every 20 minutes. The journey time should be 30 minutes.
Its area of influence mainly affects the provinces of Alicante and Murcia and reaches important cities and tourist areas such as Alicante, Benidorm, Altea, Calpe, Jávea, Denia, Santa Pola, Guardamar del Segura, Torrevieja, Orihuela, Murcia, Cartagena, La Manga of the Mar Menor and other industrial cities such as Elche, Crevillente, Novelda, Elda-Petrel, Villena, Ibi, Alcoy among others.
The percentage of passengers on international flights is eighty percent of the total. The United Kingdom, Germany, Holland and Norway are the countries that provide more passengers.
Likewise, regular domestic traffic has been increasing in recent years. Madrid (air bridge), Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona are the three most popular destinations.
The airport is located in the center of a large tourist area that covers from Denia to Mazarrón (420 km of coastline), where there are numerous cities with a dynamic industrial activity and a technical agriculture.
It occupies the fifth place in the Spanish airport network according to number of passengers, after the airports of Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Málaga-Costa del Sol and is among the 50 with the highest traffic within Europe. Following the statistical results for the month of December 2019, it occupies the fortieth position in the European airport network according to the number of little over 15 million passengers. In addition, it represents the airport with the highest passenger traffic in the Valencian Community.
The airport currently consists of two terminals. After many years of construction, the Nueva Área Terminal (NAT) was opened on March 24, 2011 and will initially accommodate all passenger traffic, i.e. H. the old terminals 1 and 2 are closed, but available for a possible reopening. The extension of the old Terminal 1, inaugurated in March 200, was built for low-cost airlines, since the extension does not have passenger boarding bridges, but only two simple stairwells to the apron.
