Volotea was founded in 2011 by Lazaro Ros and Carlos Munoz and officially started operations on April 5th. The same entrepreneurs have already gained great success and experience with their other Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling. The name Volontea comes from the Spanish verb revolotear, which means flying around.
Mainly European cities with middle distance are served as well as national holiday destinations. The flights are carried out non-stop and preferably at passenger-friendly times.
In addition to the Barcelona hub, the low-cost airline also flies to France, where it has set up important bases in Bordeaux and Nantes. Just as important as the French airline market is Italy with the two hubs, Palermo and Venice. The low-cost carrier, currently operates more than 50 scheduled scheduled services throughout Europe, serving, among others, the airports of Bordeaux, Marseille, Catania, Venice, Heraklion, Munich, Dubrovnik, Malaga, Prague or Tenerife South. It is noteworthy that the airline operates with the aircraft type Boeing 717. This type of aircraft with 5 seats per row and 2 engines is not yet used by many airlines and is one of the successors of the legendary DC9.
